Jeffery Von Gooch is a character created in 2015 when I first moved to LA. I lived in a garage in Playa Del Rey and had zero social obligations, thus: video games. He’s an amalgam of everything that is weird and wonderful in South Georgia where I grew up, where outright ignorance isn’t a badge of honor but just another thing folks are ignorant of.
While that trait can very easily come with evil artifice, there’s an innocence to that part of the country that I hope Jeffery pays tribute to somehow, a poetry in the form of mispronounced words and misinterpreted lore within the surprisingly intimate act of a video game experience. Like many of the guys I grew up with, Jeffery's bubble is far more complex than he lets on, and it’s been a joy to have him confront that fact over the past half dozen years.
